Brick Stacking
This research project proposes a brick-stacking tool with embedded intelligence for maintaining structural integrity while also giving creative freedom to the bricklayer. This is achieved through the tool’s specific set of configurations.
This allows for a wall to be “designed” as it is constructed, as decisions of geometry and curvature are made on a brick-by-brick basis, which inverts the typical design-construction methodology.

Tool and Configurations
The tool was fabricated to a specific tolerance: too great of a tolerance and the brick would slip between configurations, too small and the brick would not release from the tool.
The single tool has six possible configurations between adjacent bricks, with each providing different design opportunities for angle, light, shadow, and thickness.

Improvised Design
The tool allows for an improvised design methodology - six walls were constructed by six different designers to showcase the possibility for variation.
