Engaging Clients through Design
Cartagena, Colombia | 2018
The objective of the three-week collaborative design workshop was to create a schematic vision to develop the Calicanto Nuevo canal as a series of public spaces and collective amenities. To achieve this, we led a series of co-design workshops with our partner organization, community organizations, community leaders, residents, and local university students.
We also conducted targeted research within the neighborhood to better understand how the project could reinforce social ties, stimulate an entrepreneurship ecosystem, and strengthen the relationship with natural resources.
Multi-Generational Interviews
A series of interviews were conducted with families that had lived in the neighborhood for varying amounts of time (3 months – 40 years) to gain insights on resident’s values and aspirations.
Youth Photography Workshop
A youth photography workshop was held with high school students to capture the youth’s perspective on spatial opportunities and challenges throughout the neighborhood.
Community Design Workshop
A participatory design workshop was held with community and organization leaders to explore two primary areas: the types of spaces that should be included in the design strategy, and the location of those spaces.
Schematic Design Proposal
The objective of the schematic design proposal was to create an inspiring and feasible design, that our partner organization could leverage as a tool for fundraising in order to construct the initial phase of the design.
