Reimagining the Selfie Experience

MIT | 2015

Inspired by street portraiture artists who quickly capture their subject’s essence, this 3-axis machine was designed to recreate this experience through a robotic portrait machine. After taking a photo of the subject, the machine processes the image, and then executes the drawing. The felt tip pen allowed for this z-axis control to result in many different line or dot thicknesses. We constructed the machine from MakerBlock parts, custom 3D printed parts, and parts from a salvaged inkjet printer.
